Dutch expertise for development of Artcic gas fields

Geert Greving, Gasterra

In the Arctic, there is a large amount of gass. This is one of the reasons this area is at stake in a political fight. Russia is a important player in this Arctic Field. In my lecture I want to tell more about our co-operation with Russia in the Russian Exclusive Zone and perhaps in a later stage in the Arctic, although we are concerned about the lack of rules in the Russian off shore.
In this setting I will explain the way of bilateral cooperation with the Russian state and some major Russian companies like Rosnieft and Gazprom.
In 2007 the Dutch state with the Russian state agreed apon a joint effort, Project Delta, joining Governmental efforts and Industrial activities, focusing on the up-stream oil and gas developments in Russia. This unique cooperation is now leading to concrete activities, but a framework for health and safety is still missing. Here joint efforts between Norway and the Netherlands could support any ongoing new development off-shore and maybe could set rules for future developments into the real Arctic region.
