How current climate changes are affecting the material heritage of the polar regions

Susan Barr

It is an accepted fact that climate changes are happening, and that this can be seen more clearly in the Arctic than in most other regions. The situation for polar bears is usually used as a symbol to awaken concern and call for action. The fact that climate changes are also negatively affecting the cultural heritage in the Arctic, as well as the Antarctic, does not reach many headlines. This talk will demonstrate some of the negative effects which include more erosion, more rotting and risk of increased human impact.
Possible mitigation will also be discussed.
