Short summary report ‘Evaluatie Polair Programma’

The report states clearly that the polar policy is successful and has to be persevered. In the report is spoken about an investment of € 6.250.000. It recommends to change the organization of this flow of money:
A) 3 million for purely scientific research
B) 3 million for policy relevant research
C) 0.25 million for memberships and representation (including working groups of the Arctic Council now filled in by the Arctic Centre)

A) Will be a purely scientific evaluation, funded by NWO and the Ministry of Education and Science
B) Should be steered more by a knowledge arena (officials, scientists, business community and other stakeholders together round the table) because ministries themselves lack manpower and knowledge for this evaluation. Funded by the other ministries.
A) and B) will be looked after by NWO and monies run via the Ministry of Education and Science.
B) Monies run via the Ministry Foreign Affairs (at the moment the main part runs via the Ministry Foreign Affairs).

The committee didn’t want to pronounce itself on the direction of policy. They observed a good start in the report 'poolpositie' and think that the politicians have to decide further on accents.
