Co-ordinator

The co-ordinator of the Willem Barentsz Polar institute is Dr. Annette Scheepstra.

Annette Scheepstra Scheepstra is the co-ordinator of the WBPI since January 1st 2009.(0.7fte), in the first instance for a period of three years. She is responsible for the daily course of events of the WBPI.

Annette is originally remedial educationalist. She took her PhD in 1990 with a study of children with Down’s syndrome within the regular education. Afterwards she worked as a curriculum adiviser, co-ordinator of ETOC, a third flow of money institute at the faculty of Arts, co-ordinator and chairperson of the science shops of the University of Groningen and as editor-in-chief of the website Knowledge Debate where she made among other things, a file about polar research.

Annette did field work in Spitsberg in the summers of 2007 and 2008. In 2007 she observed barnacle geese. She looked particularly at the predation of young geese. In 2008 she was on Nordenskiöldkysten for the project Birdhealth to ring geese.
